The Ike Amendments:

"I don't remember who first coined me as "Ike", but it wasn'tme (although it's an obvious nick for me. As I recall, early in 7thgrade John Melnyk, Mark Anderson, and Mark Stanley first called me that.It was the same time we were all in the same class learning about theEisenhower years. I still don't get it. Along came Gary Darnell, whomoved from Detroit, for a brief time gave me the name "Ike the K" and"Eco-Iko-Burger", before learning I wasn't Jewish. He still liked sayingthe latter."

"John Melnyk, who was called "Maddog" for years at SEMTA after crushing a guysarm under a bus, was first given the name "Gripencheeser", (prononcedGRIPE) in 1975. "Melnyk is a Gripencheeser" was found written on thewall inside of "Quad's" van. It was assumed that Janet C. wrote it, butit looked liked Osborn's handwriting. Melnyk is also now known as"Bubba" and "Buckwheat" and calls me the same."

"Bob Osborn was nicknamed "Oblinsky" before he was known as "Ozzy" in theWoodward years. In 1972-3 Ray Kaan, Gary Darnell, and I would go toSouthfield Coney Island to eat coney-fries, unscrew all the salt andpepper shaker lids, and ride this employee's Solex bike around theparking lot in circles. We went in circles because the steering waslocked that way. Gary gave him the name after Bob said his last name wasOblin. It took many years before realized we new each other from before. We had a good laugh later."

"Some others...Marty was called "Little Rock" and "Chumly", but only if hewas around Tim Prast i.e. "Rock", and, or Dan, in that order. Thesenames and "Gravel" and "Dogface" for Mark Dulgarian, were assigned by GregJohnson, or Tim Oniu."
